Blumont Energy was born in 2024 when three respected family-owned companies in Lynchburg, Martinsville and Radford joined forces. This combination was not just a business decision; it was the coming together of shared values, strong community ties and a collective commitment to exceptional service.

Our history of success was born out of the legacies of Watts Petroleum, Midway Bottled Gas and SWVA Gas Service, which together became Blumont Energy. By combining our operations, we strengthened our ability to meet the needs of the communities we serve. A commitment that remains at the heart of everything we do.

Watts Petroleum

1936
- Watts Petroleum, founded by John A. Watts as Jennings-Watts Oil Company, registered as Lynchburg, VA’s first business to distribute heating oil, diesel fuel, gasoline and kerosene for Gulf Oil Corporation.
1984
- After Chevron Corp. acquired Gulf Oil assets, Watts Petroleum maintained a relationship with Chevron and its Texaco subsidiaries.
1995
- Watts Petroleum expanded into propane distribution for homes and businesses and established a service department for propane appliance installation and maintenance.
2010
- Watts Petroleum transitioned to partnerships with Marathon Petroleum Corporation and Spirit branded stations after Chevron exited the Mid-Atlantic/East Coast market.

Midway Bottled Gas Company

1942
- On April 28, 1942, the Southwest Virginia Gas Company was founded by C. T. Williams, Jack Bunn & Carl Hassold, to serve Martinsville and Henry County with natural gas.
1956
- The family decided to expand into the propane service and delivery sector and founded a new company, Midway Bottled Gas Company. The business was incorporated on January 15, 1956, and started serving commercial customers.
1967
- Midway Bottled Gas began providing propane to residential customers all around Southwest Virginia—from Danville to Rocky Mount and Stuart to Gretna.
2007
- Midway was led by Allan McClain for 40 years until his son James assumed leadership in 2007.
